The Committee has released this publication on “Data Analysis for Auditors - Practical Case Studies on using CAATs” to provide good illustrative use of Computer Assisted Audit Techniques for financial analysis and reporting, such that members can make better use of these tools for their professional requirements. The use of Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs) is steadily gaining greater popularity considering the large volumes and varieties of transactions now being processed through the computer and hence ready availability of data for analysis and reporting. While there are some professionals who are yet to justify the costs of acquiring and using CAATs against benefits, there are others who to provide added value to clients by undertaking detailed analysis using these techniques. This publication serves the twin purposes of demonstrating use of CAATS through practical case studies and enabling one to understand typical uses of CAAT/ GAS tools. The authors have made an earnest effort to share their experience in use, research and practical insight in the use of CAATs as auditors for business control analysis and fraud investigation.
